About Me

Ophthalmology is my passion! There is nothing more rewarding to me than getting to know my patients and their families. I have enjoyed practicing in Minnesota for over 25 years (since 1998). Prior to my eye surgery training, I worked as a General Practitioner in both Hawaii and Minnesota (from 1994 to 1998).

I was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. My parents were of Norwegian (father) and Japanese (mother) heritage. I was educated on both the East (Dartmouth) and West (Stanford) Coasts before returning to the Midwest in 1989 for Medical School. I was married in 2000 and had a daughter in 2002. I am a member of Prairie Lutheran Church but also participate in worship with the Japanese Fellowship Church. I enjoy outdoor activities like bicycling and hiking and have a passion for travel and exploring.

My career has been fulfilling. I have been involved in academics, leadership, teaching and charity work throughout my career. In addition, I have helped thousands of patients to see better through surgery and medical care. Prevention and instruction form the backbone of my practice. In addition, I do my best to listen to each patient and work with them to create a common-sense health care plan for the eyes.
